Komodo National Park known as a ‘home’ of Ora –Varanus Komodoensis –the only place of the last dragon on earth.
Ora live entirely in Komodo Island including Rinca Island, Padar Island, Nusa Kode and Gili Motang. This endemic predator is a carnivore.
They occupy the high part of the ecosistem, almost undefeated. All tour itineraries will put Komodo as the main treasure to attract people to come.
To visit Komodo National Park, you have to book flight to Labuan Bajo; the capital city of West Manggarai Regency. Hotel and other accomodations are easy to find in this small town.
The most significant atraction are the group of island with white and pink sand beach decorate with colorful coral reef. Its magnifies the story of Ora.
While Labuan Bajo is the meeting point to start the adventure, we will see the summary of the land of Ora.
Kelor Island
Kelor island has the spectaculer view toward the beach and the hill. After an easy hike, the view will appear as a natural painting. Beach, hills, and the blue sea pop up in the air. The beach has a clear water. Snorkeling around the beach is worth to do. Just explore the left part of the island.
Padar Island
Padar island with three different coloured bays is another treasure in the park. This island also the third biggest island in the area. Hike to its top need more preparation.
You have to be healthy enough to step on 800 stairs. Be aware on the steep part of the hill which mostly on the right side.
The best time to hike is in the morning start from 5:30 am until 7:30 am. The gate will close at 10:00 am and open again at 15:00 pm.
Komodo
Komodo Island has its own specialty. All travelers with mark their foot print at Loh Liang to meet the Ora.
A close interact with Ora is one of the moment that you want to draw in the pictures. But, make sure you explore the area with local guide to be safe.
Taka Makasar
Imagine a sand bar in the middle of the ocean. That is Taka Makasar. Appear with form of small moon in the middle of Komodo National Park, this small ‘taka’ is the best stop over after a hour sail from Komodo Island.
Surrounded by super crystal clear sea is prefect time to chill. Enjoy the view from the middle of nowhere.
Kanawa Island
Kanawa is perfect place if you want to spend time for snorkeling. Swimming around the wooden jetty is always a good start to watch the fish.
Besides jumping through the jetty, you can explore the beach area. If you need cold drinks, just walk to the bar. They provide Bintang and coconat for you.
The best time to visit Kanawa is during sunset time. But, whenever your boat anchored at this island, that is your best time to come around.
